The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) men’s basketball program is pleased to announce its 14 scholarship holders for 2011.

The AIS Basketball program, established in 1981, is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading development programs.

Australia’s first ever No.1 NBA draft pick Andrew Bogut, along with Australian Boomers Patrick Mills and Nathan Jawai all progressed from the Institute’s basketball program.

AIS men’s basketball coach Ian Stacker said the Institute’s 2011 program was looking strong with a number of outstanding young players possessing great athletic ability and work ethic.

“As the new Head Coach of the AIS Men’s basketball program I am very fortunate to arrive here at a time when the talent levels of our young players is so high,” Stacker said.

“I am confident that within our 2011scholarship holders we have players who will represent the future for our National under 19 and senior men’s teams.”

“I’m looking forward to working with these players and helping them achieve their career goals.”

AIS Director Professor Peter Fricker said the Institute, in partnership with Basketball Australia, is continuing to help strengthen Australian basketball through the development of talented junior athletes.

‘The AIS Basketball program aims to equip our juniors with the mental, physical and tactical skills needed to perform at both national and international levels,’ Professor Fricker said.

‘We are extremely proud of our record and tradition of producing talented basketball players who have gone on to excel at the elite level of the game.’
