Australia Moves One Step Closer as the World’s Top Natural Gas Producer

Australia and its ever developing natural resources sector have once again been featured in the spotlight of the world stage with the announcement of the $34 billion Ichthys liquefied natural gas (LNG) project.

Not only will this newly launched energy project put Australia in the running as the premier liquefied natural gas exporter in the world, but it will also create thousands of career opportunities in what has been dubbed a gloomy and unpredictable future in this global downward trending economy.

A combined project investment by France and Japan, ratified as the single largest investment in Australia by a controlling Japanese company is also being acclaimed as Australia’s second largest resource project in history.

This energy investment project alone will bring the total committed national capital investment expenditure in the LNG sector alone to over $175 billion.

The onshore/offshore employment opportunities will more than cover any issues brought up by its critics as over 3000 workers will be employed during the construction phase and over 700 during ongoing operations.

The infrastructure needed to operate this massive resource project is also on a grand scale, with a central processing facility being touted as likely to be one of the largest ever built and the ongoing construction of the world’s longest large-diameter offshore pipelines.

Future sales agreements for the LNG valued in the billions have been signed and sealed.

Taiwan, one of the world’s largest LNG importers has signed long-term supply contracts through Taiwan’s CPC Corporation.

In Japan the Chubu Electric Power and Toho Gas of Japan as well as five Japanese utilities have also signed up for Australia’s LNG.
