Australian Air Force Celebrates 90 Years of Service with 90th Birthday Celebrations on 31 March 2011

To mark this special occasion, Air Force will partner with industry to conduct modest activities throughout February and March. Activities will focus on remembering the past, and looking to our future with the theme tradition, innovation and evolution.

Australia Post release 18 February

Partnering with Australia Post, Air Force will remember its traditions this year with the public release of commemorative stamps that recognise the retirement of the F-111s. The stamps will also feature the Super Hornet, Wedgetail and Globemaster aircraft. The Stamps will go on sale to the public from 22 February 2011.

Australian International Airshow 1 – 6 March

Air Force will display a range of aircraft, including showpieces from the RAAF Museum to showcase some of Air Force’s heritage, including a Mirage aircraft and warbirds; A F/A-18 Hornet tail has been painted with Air Force’s 90th Birthday logo; and a Heron remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) (1 – 4 March only).

Shrine of Remembrance 25 March – 28 May

A selection of Air Force artworks, titled ‘Our art, your heritage’, will be showcased at the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne from 25 March to 28 May 2011.

AAAA Air Pilgrimage 28 March – 31 March

See how aircraft have changed throughout aviation history with an Air Pilgrimage of antique and historic aircraft. In association with the Antique Aeroplane Association of Australia (AAAA) from 28 March 2011 (Temora) to 31 March 2011 (Point Cook).

RAAF Ceremony 31 March

Remembering our traditions, past achievements and fallen colleagues, Air Force will hold a commemorative ceremony and addition of Battle Honours to the RAAF Memorial, Anzac Parade Canberra on 31 March 2011.

History Publications

The Air Power Development Centre will release several publications that highlight different facets of the Air Force’s proud history and long history.
