Australian Airport Workers Face Stringent Security Checks
Australia (News4us.com) May 03, 2011
Those people who need to work airside on a regular or permanent basis must first be background checked by ASIO, law enforcement agencies and, where necessary, the Department of Immigration & Citizenship and be granted an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC).
This card must be worn and displayed at all times.
The Government outlined its aviation security framework in the National Aviation Policy White Paper in December 2009. This included a number of enhancements to the security arrangements for visitors on airports.
Major airports are required to undertake inspections of all staff going airside. These inspections include face to identity checks of all personnel and a visual inspection of any accompanying items. Vehicles seeking to access these areas are also subject to inspection arrangements.
Australia’s threat level remains unchanged. For more information please go to http://www.infrastructure.gov.au.
