Australian Made Concept Store Opens in Melbourne Airport
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia (News4us.com) April 15, 2011
International visitors to Melbourne Airport will be able to buy Australian made gifts from today following the opening of the Australian Made Concept Store.
More than 5.5 million international visitors pass through the Melbourne airport each year, equivalent to 16,165 each day, providing the store with the opportunity to sell quality Australian made products to a captive market.
Minister for Tourism, Martin Ferguson AM MP, officially opened the Melbourne Store which joins similar stores at Sydney and Perth Airports selling Australian goods under the Australian Made, Australian Grown brand.
Minister Ferguson said it made good business sense to stock good quality, valuable Australian made goods manufactured from Australian raw materials.
“People passing through the airport are often seeking something locally made – either to remind them of home, or as a souvenir, or to give to friends and relatives overseas. The convenience of the Australian Made Concept Store allows them to make a last minute purchase before travelling,” Minister Ferguson said.
“The benefits of Australia’s tourism industry flow beyond tourism operators to the many manufacturers offering authentic Australian-made goods.
“Like the national TQUAL tourism mark that we are currently rolling out across the country, the Australian Made, Australian Grown brand gives consumers greater confidence in what they’re buying.
“We know that Australian tourism experiences are taken home as memories, and now the Australian Made Concept Store allows visitors to take home a product that they can be assured is good value, good quality and authentically Australian.”
The green and gold Australian Made, Australian Grown logo is the most trusted and recognised country-of-origin symbol for Australia. Research shows 94 per cent of Australians are familiar with the brand. The logo features on more than 10,000 products sold here and overseas.
