Cairns Dancers to Contest North Queensland Titles

A contingent of 25 Dancers from the “City of Cairns” Highland and Irish Dancers are travelling to Townsville on Friday 8 June to contest the Northern Tropical Highland Dancing Titles and the Australian Irish Dancing Association NQ Premierships.

Following on from the success that Cairns Highland Dancers enjoyed at the Queensland Highland Dancing Championships in March, Principal Mrs Jackie Wilson is expecting that the Cairns Dancers will do very well at the competitions in Townsville.

At the Queensland Highland Dancing Championships, Cairns Highland Dancer, Hannah Jarvis became Queensland Highland Dancing Champion for 12 Years and Under.

Other notable placings in the Championships were Gemma Purvis who was placed 4th in the 13, 14 and 15 years championship and Angela Nucifora who gained overall placings from all three judges in the same championship.

There have been big changes for the Cairns dancers from April when they commenced classes at the newly established FNQ Dance Academy studios at 168 Draper Street.

While the Cairns Scottish and Irish Dance Academy remains autonomous, Cairns Highland and Irish Dancers are enjoying the state of the art facilities that FNQ Dance Academy has to offer.

Our best wishes are extended to all the dancers competing in the forthcoming competitions.
