NSW, Australia (News4us.com) February 24, 2011
A 41-year-old Blacktown man will appear in Sydney Central Local Court today, charged with attempting to possess cocaine concealed in buttons.
The AFP arrested the man in Wahroonga yesterday where he took possession of a parcel.
It is alleged that the man received the parcel addressed to a private mailbox at a newsagency.
An AFP examination of the parcel revealed two items of women’s clothing with 50 large buttons attached.
One button was deconstructed by AFP Forensics to reveal 2.1 grams of a concealed white powder, later confirmed to be cocaine.
The 50 buttons are expected to contain approximately 100 grams of cocaine.
The man has been charged with attempt to possess a marketable quantity of a border controlled drug, namely cocaine, contrary to Section 307.6 of the Criminal Code Act 1995.
The maximum penalty for this offence is $550,000 and/or 25 years imprisonment.
