Dempsey the Second American to Score in a World Cup

Clint Dempsey has done it! Scoring a goal in the World Cup 2010 puts him in a unique class as one of only two Americans in the world to shoot a goal in this super class tournament. Like the Olympics only the best of the best soccer athletes get to compete in the World Cup, where the greatest teams in the world vie for the gold cup.

The U.S. took on England today in a thrilling fast paced match at Royal Bafokeng Stadium that saw yet another 1-1 draw, showcasing the talent and unique skills of both teams who struggled to dominate each other.

The first goal of the match was scored by England’s Steven Gerrard who stormed past Ricardo Clark and beat the U.S. goalkeeper Tim Howard from within the 6 yard box, in a tense moment of soccer history.

Not to be outdone Clint Dempsey took it back to England in the 40th minute with a pile driver of a shot from the 25 yard mark that bounced in to goal off the English goalkeeper’s hand, stunning the British fans and adding yet another in a long line of shocking fumbles by England goalkeepers.

Clint Dempsey now joins Brian McBride as the only two Americans to ever have scored in two World Cups and proving yet again that the Americans once not considered a major threat are now gaining prowess and hitting back against much more formidable and experienced teams.

For the English who are chasing their first World Cup title since 1966 this can only be a very disappointing result.
