Fifa World Cup Hots Up for Next Round

As the soccer juggernaut known a the World Cup gains momentum the excitement is mounting with much loved teams qualifying for the next round and others devastated by being knocked out of any future participation.

UnStoppAble, the alias for the U.S. team who won their match during overtime play that can only be described as an agonizing 91 minutes of hectic game play before the first goal that saw many opportunities created then lost, by both sides.

With the crowd on its feet for most of the match and the blaring sounds of the Vuvuzela Horns building to a deafening crescendo the United States finally scored. The following eruption by the team, the coaching staff and the fans could be heard all over the world.

Donovan who in his own words said “time seemed to stop” put the ball in the back of the net to the approval of the screaming fans. Algeria was visibly devastated by the goal that advanced the Americans out of group play and into the knockout round for the first time in 80 years.

Well done USA!

In other games that night, Australia went on to beat Serbia 2-1 in what can only be described as another fast moving and tense game with excellent ball handling skills being displayed from both sides. The ball seemed to be in continual motion from one end of the field to the other and the development of some great attacking formations.

With two goals being scored in the second half for the Socceroos by Tim Cahill and Brett Holman, Australia went on to be victorious in the match but failed to qualify for the final 16 due to Germany beating Ghana 1-0 in their own match that started not long after.

Australia really needed Germany to lose against Ghana, or score more goals themselves against Serbia to qualify for the next round. Unfortunately, these critical pivoting points failed to occur and so we bid farewell to the team from down-under.

As they say in Australia “Onya Mate!”
