Far North Queensland’s MasterChef contestant, Filippo Silvestro made a name for himself competing in this year’s television series for baking great bread.

This weekend he will showcase his talent and love of local produce when he creates the canapé menu for single revellers attending Castaways’ B & S Burlesque Ball at  Mission Beach.

Event organiser, Sarah Jones said she can’t wait to sample Filippo’s menu that will be created in partnership with Castaways’ executive chef, Karl Spinks using the region’s freshest and best produce.

According to Sarah, since his success in MasterChef, Filippo and his family have relocated from Cairns to Brisbane in the effort of cracking the big time inbaking.

Saturday evening’s black-tie cocktail party event is presented by Bluesky Brewery.

Tickets are still available at just $100 per person and include beer, wine, food and entertainment. Doors open at 7pm.

Organiser, Sarah Jones said Saturday’s event will spice up the B & S tradition with a modern twist that not only succeeds in bringing singles together from throughout Queensland, but raises money for the physical and emotional recovery of Queensland chef, Matt Golinksi via the Plates forMates initiative.

Plates for Mates was created by six of Australia’s leading chefs as a way to help their colleague and dear friend who tragically lost his wife and children in a house fire last year on the Sunshine Coast.

“This event focuses the spotlight on Far North Queensland’s beautiful destination of Mission Beach while introducing the new and exciting ‘single’s’ dating concept of ‘meeting half way’. This event is about bringing regional Queensland’s ‘singles’ together for a completely new experience,” she said.

Ms Jones says the odds of finding a partner in the far north are not well stacked with the number of single women in Cairns outweighing single men while in Townsville the reverse is true.

“There are many interesting statistics that highlight a ‘singles’ imbalance in the far north with different age groups showing disparity. Between the ages of 25 and 34, there are 117 single men to every 100 women while in the older age bracket of 35 to 44 year olds the in balance is reversed with 85 single men to every 100 single women. At the end of the day this event is all about providing a fun and exciting way of meeting like minded people and perhaps even come away with a date,” she said.

The event, which is emceed by local crooner and Australia’s Got Talent star, Rhys Tolhurst, will comprise a cocktail party with live performances from playful burlesque troupes, including a visiting troupe from Brisbane, a swing band from Cairns, Hot ‘n’ Wet, hip-hop crew, DVO, and singles games to break the ice between strangers.

Along with event presenter, Bluesky Brewery, sponsors include Fine Wine Partners, Daintree Estates chocolate and exotic fruit from Peter Solaris.
