From Farm to Fork – A Journey to the Grassroots with The Organic Experience

The Cairns Festival is about showcasing the many and varied facets of life in the far north from the ground up.

For those interested in leading a healthy lifestyle and supporting local, The Organic Experience departing Saturday 1 September, will provide a memorable journey to the grassroots of local farming, local food and sustainable living.

Tour organiser, Emma Lodge, is keen to bring a greater awareness to her local community about the importance of local produce.

“Food can play a powerful role in promoting health, as well as building strong and diverse communities, protecting the environment and strengthening the economy.

“The aim of The Organic Experience is to reconnect to our grassroots and share information with each other, so that we can make informed healthy and sustainable choices,” said Emma.

The itinerary is a personalised experience which includes a visit to the Mareeba home and production site of Kaizi’s Traditional Coconut Oil and Essential Blends – Australia’s only Indigenous, Torres Strait Island producers of pure coconut oil.

Hosts, Jude and Joe of Cheesemaking and More will share their love of the land and their self sufficient lifestyle in a picturesque setting just outside Lake Eacham.

Meanwhile The Realfood Network will showcase a selection of locally grown certified organic or biodynamic fruit, vegetables and herbs delivered fresh by local Tableland farmers.

“Don’t forget your shopping bag!” is Emma’s message to tour participants.

The tour costs just $99 per person and includes morning tea, and a cooking demonstration with spectacular panoramic views at the top of Hallorans Hill in Atherton, plus plenty of recipes to take home.
