Gillard Government Commits More Than $1 Billion to Nation Building Plan, Funding Over 2100 Projects

More than 700 jobs will be on offer for young people in the northern and western suburbs of Melbourne at a Jobs Expo in Werribee today.
Opening the 34th Keep Australia Working Jobs and Skills Expo, Parliamentary Secretary for School Education and Workplace Relations Jacinta Collins urged job seekers to take advantage of the opportunity to meet with a range of employers in the one location.
“More than 700 jobs will be on offer today which is fantastic,” the Victorian Senator said. “The Gillard Government’s hope is that, at the end of today, 700 job seekers will walk away with a job.
“This one-stop shop for jobs is the place to be for job seekers in the area. More than 100 exhibitors will attend, there will be a jobs board with jobs on offer, and a skills board where local training organisations will promote a variety of training options.”
Since October last year, 33 Jobs and Skills Expos have been held across the country in regions with high youth unemployment, and more than 13,900 Australians have been connected with jobs as a result.
“By the end of today we should pass the 14,000 jobs figure, which would be a tremendous achievement,” Senator Collins said.
“The Gillard Government has also committed more than $1 billion to fund more than 2100 projects in the north and western Melbourne area under the Nation Building Plan.”
