Hewlett-Packard Invests in Next Generation Data Centre Located at Eastern Creek, Western Sydney
Sydney, NSW, Australia (News4us.com) February 04, 2011
The Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy, has today welcomed Hewlett-Packard’s (HP) investment in a Next Generation Data Centre in Eastern Creek, Western Sydney.
“The data centre will provide vital infrastructure that will, among other things, allow more Australian businesses to move their IT operations to cloud computing, thereby reducing costs and improving information sharing,” Senator Conroy said.
“I am pleased that companies like HP, one of the world’s largest in information technology, are building infrastructure that will further drive Australia’s participation and competiveness in the digital economy.
“Infrastructure such as this Next Generation Data Centre exemplifies the type of forward-looking investment activity that the NBN is encouraging in Australia. It is a tangible demonstration of how the government’s investment in the NBN is driving corporate investment in the Australian ICT sector,” Senator Conroy said.
Senator Conroy noted that the multi-million dollar investment will further stimulate economic activity, including the immediate creation of hundreds of new local jobs in the construction and associated industries.
“High-speed ubiquitous broadband provided by the NBN and the government’s commitment to the digital economy will continue to fuel innovation, encourage entrepreneurial activity and stimulate the restructuring of industries and institutions,” Senator Conroy said.
“I expect that industry, and particularly the ICT industry, will continue to play an important role in promoting the opportunities of the digital economy to enhance productivity through the use of ICT and the NBN.”
