Larry King Stepping Out for the Last Time

Larry King quits

Larry King to leave cnn

With his 25th anniversary behind him and a chart breaking 50,000 interviews under his belt, Larry King has finally decided to quit his famous show and “try other things” as he put it.

Larry’s decision came after many circulating stories and months of media speculation concerning spiralling ratings. The talk show host swears it had nothing to do with network pressure for him to step down and that CNN took cyclical ratings in their stride. It was considered part and parcel of being in the cable TV business and affected most shows on the air.

This was further proven by the signing of a new contract for King with CNN to host up and coming specials on the cable news channel.

Originally starting as a radio talk host which went national through syndications, Larry was an extremely successful interviewer when the then founder of CNN Ted Turner approached him in 1985 and talked him into trying out his radio talk skills on cable TV.

The show was a success and what some say in the industry helped define cable as a medium of choice for viewers to sit down to and watch every night.

It is still unclear who will replace him at this point with the rumours flying thick and fast. Larry has himself dropped the name of Ryan Seacrest, of whom he spoke well of.

Love him or hate him there is one thing for sure, Larry King will not be far from the limelight. He has been involved within the industry for far to long to just walk away in to obscurity.
