New Hi-Tech Hearing Aids Invented in Melbourne Australia
Melbourne, VIC, Australia (News4us.com) May 19, 2011
Melbourne researchers took another leap forward today after announcing the successful development of a smart, self-managed hearing aid that utilizes bionic ear technology.
At less than $3000 a pair they retail at half the price of other available conventional hearing aids. These new small hearing aids can be purchased over the Internet and easily fitted by the user.
Settings to suit the home, workplace or social environments can be easily adjusted and fine tuned by the user.
Dr Peter Blamey, founder of Australia Hears and Deputy Director of the Bionic Ear Institute stated, “Australia’s bionic ear has already brought hearing to hundreds of thousands of deaf children and adults worldwide.”
“The Australia Hears hearing aid uses digital technology from the bionic ear (known as ADRO) to bring better hearing to the millions of Australians with hearing loss, who have been put off by the cost, complexity and stigma of conventional hearing aids,” he said.
Over 11 years of development and research went into producing these highly successful hearing aids, with major support from the Australian Government.
Further applications are being looked at for use with this proprietary technology including headsets and mobile phones.
The next version in this ground breaking medical device is already underway in Melbourne at an advanced manufacturing facility at RMIT, with help from a Victorian government grant towards a new more sophisticated prototype.
