A new research lab to develop innovative, technology-driven solutions for the logistics industry has been established in Sydney, Australia.
The Future Logistics Living Lab will investigate real-world problems and develop innovative technologies to jointly shape the future of logistics. It will provide a platform for collaboration between the logistics industry and the research sector.
The project has more than a dozen Australian and international participants including NICTA, SAP, Fraunhofer, Casella Wines, Ericsson, Gamma Solutions, Google, GS1 Australia, Hamburg Süd, Linfox, Tradegate, XAct Solutions, Victoria University and the University of New South Wales.
The Living Lab aims to improve the efficiency of Australia’s logistics networks by fast tracking the adoption of emerging technologies and leading research outcomes by industry. The lab will help industry find cost effective solutions for challenges such as rising fuel costs, road congestion, carbon emissions and safety.
The Living Lab is funded through Fraunhofer Project Group in Transport & Logistics at NICTA with support from Industry & Investment NSW.
Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental Software Engineering’s Executive Director, Professor Dieter Rombach said, “Fraunhofer recognises the importance of working with leading scientists around the world.
“Building on our existing relationship with NICTA and drawing on a bedrock of world-class Australian research, we will work together to deliver greater scientific results and generate break-through technologies for market,” he said.
