Occupational Therapy Australia ‘promOTing Better Living Expo’ Cairns

Cairns, QLD, Australia – ( June 25, 2012

With areas of specialty focussing on mental health, driving, work rehabilitation, paediatrics and soft tissue care, Occupational Therapy (OT) contributes to the holistic wellbeing of communities the world over.

In September this year, the Queensland division of Occupational Therapy Australia will hold its promOTing better living expo in Cairns.

This is the first time the expo has been held in Far North Queensland and is an opportunity for the association to raise public awareness of OT to local community.

It is anticipated the expo will attract carers, parents, health care professionals, educators and a diverse cross-section of community members.

The one-day event is free of charge and features a program of speakers as well as exhibitor displays, public information sessions led by industry experts and demonstrations.

A highlight of this year’s promOTing better living expo will be a presentation by guest speaker, Paul de Gelder.

Paul is the survivor of a brutal shark attack while training as a Navy clearance diver in Sydney Harbour in 2009.

He has recently been named by Minx magazine one of Australia’s most influential people and he will share his remarkable and inspirational story of his recovery, as written in his recently released book, No Time for Fear: How a shark attack survivor beats the odds.

Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing.

The promOTing better living expo will be held at Pullman Reef Hotel Casino between 9.30am and 3pm.


The promOTing better living expo will include:

  • Free entry for all attendees
  • Public information sessions led by champions of the OT profession
  • Exhibitor displays by equipment and service providers
  • Exhibitor demonstrations of leading products and services
  • Continuing Professional Development (CPD workshops for OTs
  • Prize draws for attendees

Occupational Therapy Australia’s Queensland division held its inaugural promOTing better living expo in October 2011 in Brisbane.

Held over two days it was well embraced by the Brisbane community with high attendance and formed part of last year’s OT Week celebrations.
