A fire has been extinguished on board the Navy’s Armidale Class Patrol boat HMAS Bundaberg, alongside Darwin Naval base.

The patrol boat’s duty watch crew responded quickly when the fire was reported in the early hours of Saturday morning.

There were no injuries and the services of the Darwin fire brigade were not required.

Some of HMAS Bundaberg’s internal area has been damaged by smoke and water.

An investigation will begin shortly into the cause of the fire. A detailed damage assessment will be carried out in the coming days.

HMAS Bundaberg is visiting Darwin from its home base in Cairns.
