The Australian Federal Police (AFP), Victoria Police, New South Wales Police Force, Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) and New South Wales Crime Commission acknowledge the outcome of today’s court hearing in the Melbourne Supreme Court.
Three men were today found guilty of conspiring to do acts in planning or preparation for a terrorist act.
The prosecution was a result of a complex and lengthy joint investigation, Operation Neath.
The investigation provides a clear example of how state and federal police and the intelligence community are working collaboratively together to combat the threat of terrorism and ensure the safety and security of the Australian public.
The community can be assured that law enforcement and intelligence agencies will continue to work hard to keep our communities safe.
The nature and seriousness of the allegations have been demonstrated by the evidence presented to the court.
Operation Neath was a joint investigation by the AFP, Victoria Police, New South Wales Police, New South Wales Crime Commission and ASIO, with the support of other agencies, including the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions.
The joint investigation began in January 2009 as a result of information sharing between agencies.
Members of the public should call the National Security Hotline on 1800 123 400 if they have information they believe may be linked to terrorist activity.
