Senior Summer School Offers a Week of Sight Seeing & Entertainment Through the Midwest’s Hidden Treasure – Madison, Wisconsin

To kick-off their Meeting Madness Sale, which ends on March 10th, Senior Summer has designed this six night program to highlight one of the Midwest’s hidden treasures – Madison, Wisconsin. A perfect blend of great academics, with sight-seeing and entertainment, the week will offer some nice surprises. A narrated city and campus tour, by Senior Summer School’s own “Billy Madison” will kick off the adventure. Other tours include Frank Lloyd Wright’s Unitarian Church and Monona Terrace, the State Capitol, and of course, the UW Dairy.

Discovering the many museums, galleries, restaurants, and boutiques on State Street will keep participants engaged. There is always more to discover around every corner and down every street. A Big Band and jazz concert is also on the menu along with the Wednesday evening walk up to the Capitol to hear the Chamber Orchestra play. It is the ideal end to a perfect day and designed to give you the quintessential Madison experience.

Daily lectures are held within the building and are taught by UW faculty, the State Historical Society docents, local authors and notables. Evening entertainment highlights local musicians. Current events, politics, local history, health and wellness, and classes in the humanities are typical academic fare. The special “Discover Wisconsin” session will feature local topics.

Participants stay in newly renovated apartments in the heart of downtown on State Street, with easy, walkable access to the University, beautiful Lake Mendota, and all the charm downtown has to offer. This company is similar to Road Scholar (formerly Elderhostel) with regard to program schedule, but Senior Summer School differs in that it provides a much broader academic line-up, typically, over a longer period of time.

These all-inclusive programs include housing, meals, daily classes, sight-seeing tours and evening entertainment. Specializing in value vacations, Senior Summer School prides itself as the affordable option for lifelong learning. The 2011 locations also include; San Diego, CA, Santa Barbara, CA, Eugene, OR, and Ithaca, NY, with sale prices ranging from $ 25 to $ 350 off the regular priced programs.
