Steam Gaming Hits the Ground Running with New Free Games

Steam gaming software has come a long way since its first release back in 2002.

Developed by Valve Corporation and officially termed as a digital distribution, digital rights management, multiplayer and communications platform.

The Steam gaming platform was initially created to assist with upgrading games online through the use of patches without interrupting game play unnecessarily, as well as implementing better piracy and cheat measures.

Now boasting over 1,300 game titles available through Steam and over 30 million active user accounts, Steam gaming has grown to control approximately 70% of the lucrative digital distribution market for video games both on and offline.

Major publishers have flocked to this games software distribution giant including EA, Activision, Rockstar Games, Bethesda and many more.

Steam gaming has its own official forum to cater to the millions of users it has amassed around the world.

Due to the size and nature of the industry many individual Steam gaming forums have sprung up, with most run by enthusiastic game players and small games developers around the world, all assisting each other with technical or gaming issues.

PC gamers now also have access to free games on the steam gaming platform, with two shooters and three MMO’s available, with more titles in the works.

While competition in the online games market heats up with other industry players such as Gamersgate giving Valve a run for their money.

The Steam gaming software still remains the number one digital distribution and multiplayer gaming platform on the planet and it seems like it will not have any problem holding on to that enviable position for some time to come.
