The Australian Federal Police Sponsor the implementation of the Australian Equity Index Through Pride in Diversity Australia

The Australian Federal Police has today hosted the launch of the Australian Workplace Equality Index, a measure which aims to ensure gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees always enjoy a safe and supportive workplace.
The Australian Federal Police has sponsored the implementation of the Australian Equity Index through Pride in Diversity Australia.
The Australian Workplace Equality Index is a comprehensive benchmarking system that will for the first time showcase Australia’s most supportive employers for gay and lesbian staff.
The program runs in partnership with Pride in Diversity Australia, the first not-for-profit program to focus exclusively on supporting Australia’s employers, and covers every aspect of gay and lesbian inclusion. The AFP is a foundation member of Pride in Diversity.
The Australian Workplace Equality Index is already being used in the United Kingdom, where it is credited with helping to break down workplace and community barriers for gay and lesbian people. More than 7000 employees gave anonymous feedback to the index during 2010.
“By being part of the launch of the index, the AFP hopes to demonstrate its determination to develop a workplace that values and supports all the diverse groups which contribute to the wider community it serves,” AFP National Manager Human of Resources Stephen Walker said.
“The AFP has long taken a pioneering approach to support its diverse employees and has recently launched a Workplace Diversity Plan which will be managed and monitored consistently across the AFP.”
The Australian Workplace Equality Index is open to all employers and access is free.
