UK Cold Snap Sees Over 100,000 Boilers Needing Repair in Just One Week
UK (News4us.com) January 27, 2011
The latest severe freeze of November and December 2010 has put a lot of central heating systems across the UK under enormous pressure.
In recent years it has not been unusual to have a final cold snap in February and March. It is often the tail end of the winter when central heating systems are tested to their limits.
Plumbers across the country have been extremely busy fixing faulty systems, often charging a premium to do so at short notice, much to the discomfort of families who can least afford unexpected bills just as Government cuts and tax rises are starting to pinch UK homeowners.
Eric Byers of Omniassist, national providers of boiler and central heating emergency cover says “We are expecting to have a very busy February as the cold weather inevitably closes in again for a final attack on our homes.”
“A report from British Gas showed that 100,000 boilers needed repair in just one week during the last cold snap. We expect this situation to get worse as boilers that have struggled through this bitter winter finally stumble at the final hurdle.”
“We strongly recommend all homeowners to check their boilers and heating systems insurance if they have been fortunate enough to dodge a problem so far this year.”
Omniassist fully expect the next few months to be a busy time for their heating engineers and plumbers.
Many UK consumers find themselves unprotected as these needs are often not covered by traditional household content insurance policies where insurers battle for increasing competitiveness though price comparison sites.
