Canberra, Australia (News4us.com) February 15, 2011
Attorney-General Robert McClelland today said United States Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano will visit Australia next week.
“Secretary Napolitano will visit Canberra, Sydney and Brisbane to participate in a number of bilateral discussions and briefings between the United States and Australia,” Mr McClelland said.
“The focus of Secretary Napolitano’s visit will be to strengthen global supply chain systems, to ensure they’re smarter and more resilient.
“We will also discuss ways to increase information sharing between the United States and Australia to counter terrorism, violent extremism and organised crime.
“Given Secretary Napolitano’s responsibility for the US Federal Emergency Management Authority (FEMA), discussions will also focus on how the two countries can learn from each other’s expertise in relation to natural disaster emergency response and recovery.
“Secretary Napolitano plans to visit Brisbane to meet Emergency Management personnel who played a critical role in responding to the Queensland floods crisis and the threat from Tropical Cyclone Yasi.”
Secretary Napolitano’s visit will be hosted by the Attorney-General. The Secretary will also visit New Zealand.
